The preferred hat of travelers the world 'round, this hat will take a beating and be a welcomed friend for years to come. Filson's Tin Cloth, so-called because garments made from it are as waterproof and wear resistant as if they were made of tin, has long been recognized in the Northwest as setting the standard for protection and wear resistance. The material, is 100% cotton duck. The Oil Finish provides the greatest protection and wear. The cotton duck is impregnated with a paraffin-based wax, creating a finished 12.5 ounce fabric that is highly water repellent and wind resistant. The oil finish Tin Cloth has not been preshrunk and may shrink with repeated soaking in the rain. If you intend using your oil finish garment primarily as wet weather gear, order one size larger than normal to accommodate shrinkage. If you intend using it under dry conditions for its great durability, your normal size will be better. Filson oil finish Tin Cloth should not be washed or dry-cleaned. Rinse off with cool water, wipe or brush clean.

Hat Sizing
| Heads come in
all sizes, and in a surprising variety of shapes. Although high quality
hats are adaptable, and will usually conform to differences in shape
with a little wearing, it is essential that the size be correct for the
head.
To determine your hat size, measure the circumference around your head, keeping the tape level and firm, across the temples and above the eyebrow ridges. Check the size chart given below. For in-between measurements use the next size up. |

For hats offered in S-M-L increments, determine your hat size first, then check to see which increment covers your hat size, as this often varies from one manufacturer to another. For the light weight canvas hats for hot weather use you may prefer a hat a little larger than your normal size.
